To create the Lost Cousins event in Family Tree Maker on your PC follow the procedure below:

  • Go to the People tab.
  • Select the person you wish to edit.
  • Right click on the person and select Edit Person
  • Right click on one of the existing Facts and select Add Fact
  • Click on New
  • In the window for Fact Label type Lost Cousins
  • Leave the other options as the default settings.
  • Click OK
  • Select the Lost Cousins fact that is now in the list and click OK
  • Ensure that the new Lost Cousins fact is selected.
  • To the right of the fact list there is a window labelled Date enter the census year in to it.
  • You could also enter a Place but it is not necessary for this purpose.
  • Click OK


For future entries it is not necessary to create the new fact - Lost Cousins will be in the list of facts for you to select and add.

To create the Lost Cousins event in Family Tree Maker on Ancestry (online version) follow the procedure below:

  • On the Overview tab for a person
  • Click on Add Fact
  • From the drop down list select Custom Event
  • In the Title field type Lost Cousins
  • In the Date field type 1841 or 1881 or 1911
  • Click Submit


To export a GEDCOM in FTM2011:

  • Update your findings
  • Click on File on the toolbar and select Export
  • Select Entire File
  • For the Output Format choose GEDCOM 5.5
  • Modify the other options to suit.
  • Click OK
  • Choose the location to save your GEDCOM file.
  • Click Save
  • Click OK


To export a GEDCOM in FTM2012:

  • Update your findings
  • Click on File on the toolbar and select Export
  • Select Entire File
  • For the Output Format choose GEDCOM 5.5
  • Modify the other options to suit.
  • Click OK
  • In the Destination box select FTM 2012
  • In the Character Set box select ANSI
  • Choose the location to save your GEDCOM file.
  • Click Save
  • Click OK
